When are JUPAS application deadlines?

The main JUPAS application opens in early October each year, with the deadline to submit and pay the application fee usually in early December. Programme choices can be revised until late June, after DSE results are released. Final results-based programme arrangement happens in early August. When should I take the SAT, ACT, IELTS, or TOEFL?

Take standardized tests by the end of Year 12 / Grade 11 at the latest, with a target score in hand. This frees up Year 13 / Grade 12 for application essays, interviews, and final exams. IELTS and TOEFL scores are valid for two years, so timing them in Year 12 is ideal.

Working With an Admissions Counselor

Start as early as Form 3 / Year 10 / Grade 9. This is when subject selection happens — and the subjects a student picks at this stage will determine which universities and majors are open to them three years later. Engineering, Medicine, Law, and Architecture all have specific HL, A-Level, or AP subject requirements. Starting in Form 5 / Year 12 means most strategic decisions have already been made by default. The earlier the planning, the more options stay open.

No, but it limits options. By Form 5 / Year 12 / Grade 11, students are already a year into their IB, AP, or A-Level subjects. We can still build a strong application from this stage — focusing on personal statement, extracurriculars, summer programs, and university shortlisting. But subject changes are usually no longer feasible. Starting earlier (Form 3-4) gives families more strategic flexibility.

Begin researching universities in Year 11 / Grade 10. Start drafting personal statements or Common App essays in the summer before Year 13 / Grade 12. UCAS deadlines are typically October (Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary) and January (most other courses). The Common App opens August 1 each year, with Early Decision/Action deadlines in November and Regular Decision in January. Strong applications are written, redrafted, and reviewed over months — not weeks.
